It’s probably no surprise to Rochesterians how many talented local artists work in this community, or that many others come through on tour, for concerts or exhibits, to speak at events or film festivals, or on movie shoots. But I bet few realize how fortunate we are that some seasoned professionals come to share their expertise with our kids, helping them to develop and hone their skills and talents.
Two such artists are Nikki Snelson and Ben Cameron, who are both well-known in the Broadway community. I had the good fortune to catch up with them while they were running Rochester Broadway Theatre League’s annual Summer Stars program, a three-week performing arts intensive for students in grades 5 through 12.
I had a chance to ask them about their own careers, favorite characters and most memorable moments, as well as to talk to them about RBTL’s Summer Stars program and what role it plays in the lives of the kids who participate. I also had a surprise chance to look in on the kids as they were rehearsing for the program’s finale, and boy, was I impressed!
Many thanks to Nikki, Ben, Rochester Broadway Theatre League for making this episode possible!
